  36.     CatList is a BBS Listing door written specifically for Wildcat! BBS
  37. 3.x and greater.  I do not imply in any shape, form or fashion that
  38. CatList will operate on any other BBS software.  CatList will maintain a
  39. BBS list for a specified number of days.  At the end of that time, the
  40. user that listed the BBS will receive a notice for 10 days informing
  41. him/her that the listing has expired and must be updated.  On the
  42. eleventh day if the user has not updated the listing, it will be deleted
  43. from the database.   CatList notifies the user that the listing was
  44. deleted.  All notifications are sent using the USERxxx.BBS files which
  45. WildCat! sends to the individual user when they logon.  Once this file is
  46. sent, WC! then deletes the file and logs it to the Activity.log.
  47. CatList supports COMs 1-4 only.
  48.  
  49.     Only the user that originally listed a BBS will be able to
  50. Edit/Update or Delete that listing.  You as the sysOp have the ability
  51. to E/U/D any listing in the database.
  52.  
  53.     The door should be easy enough to set up on its own, particularly if
  54. you're familiar with door operation under Wildcat!  If you do have any
  55. problems, you can reach me on The Parole Board BBS or you can call me
  56. voice.

  59. REGISTERED OPTIONS:
  60.  
  61.     Once registered, you may set the Listing Age (Line #7 of the CFG
  62. file) to any number of days.  Until registration, it is locked at 14
  63. days.  I do not like 'crippling' or 'handicapping' one of my programs
  64. but on my older doors, there are more un-registered users using them
  65. than registered.  Registered SysOps also have the ability to use
  66. HEADER.DAT and TAIL.DAT files.  These are ASCii text files that are
  67. added to the TEXT file that is created by CatList.  You may use them for any
  68. reason that you desire.  The HEADER.DAT is written to the text file just
  69. after the Copyright Info and before the body of the listings. The
  70. TAIL.DAT is written just after the body of the listings and before the
  71. credits.  The files must be named "HEADER.DAT" & "TAIL.DAT".  Registered
  72. owners that would like to use POSTMASTER (Copyright 1992, Dave Cody &
  73. BoardWalk Software) have the option of setting Line 12 of the CFG file
  74. to "Y".  CatList will then create two files named "CATLIST.EXP" and
  75. "CATLIST.DEL" in the WC! home directory that you specified on line 10 of
  76. the CFG file.  CATLIST.EXP contains the names of the users that have
  77. EXPIRED listings.  The CATLIST.DEL contains the names of users with
  78. listings that have been deleted.  These files are ONLY created once each
  79. day when the maintenance is performed.  You may want to add a couple of
  80. lines to your DOORx.BAT to test for these files and have POSTMASTER work
  81. on them. CatList is fully functional other than these options.

  86. may be left on The Parole Board BBS in the "PAROLE Software" conference
  87. or the Mustang! BBS in the "PRIVATE" conference.  If you feel that a

  96.      Updates are FREE to registered users and may be downloaded from The
  97. Parole Board BBS, Mustang! BBS and various other BBS systems.  Once
  98. registered, CatList updates are free for life.  If you wish an update on

  119.    You may make this file available for downloading from your BBS or you may
  120.    upload it to any BBS of your choice, provided that you do not make any
  121.    changes to the contents of the archive (ZIP file). The archive and its
  122.    individual contents may not be used by any service that charges any money
  123.    whatsoever, without the written permission of the author.

  125.         This ZIP file was created using the -AV function of PKZIP.  If
  126.         my AV is missing then this file may not be complete or has been
  127.         tampered with.  Complete and current editions of this program
  128.         are always available for D/L on The Parole Board BBS.  If the -AV
  129.         is missing please complain to your sysop to stop the practice of
  130.         removing AV's as this is your assurance from the programmer that
  131.         the file is complete and virus free.

  133. INSTALLATION:
  134.  
  135.     Installation of CatList is an easy straightforward operation.  You
  136. will need to create a directory to hold the CatList files.  For
  137. simplicity, we will use the directory "C:\DOOR\CATLIST" in this
  138. documentation.  Once you have created "\CATLIST", unZIP the CATLISTx.ZIP
  139. archive into that directory.  You should then create a sub directory
  140. called "C:\DOOR\CATLIST\SCREENS". UnZIP the file "SCREENS.ZIP" into this
  141. sub-directory.  SCREENS.ZIP should contain the following files:

  152.     Any of these screens may be modified by the user but with some
  153. restrictions.  The MENU.xxx, VSCREEN.xxx, and WELCOME.xxx screens must
  154. remain the same physical size since some of the info on them is
  155. hard coded in the CATLIST.EXE program.

  157.    MSGIMP.ZIP contains sample .IMP files that you may modify to suit
  158.    your individual tastes.  Place these files where you normally place
  159.    your .IMP files.  This should be in your \WC30\MSG directory.  The
  160.    archive should contain the files "DELETE.IMP" and "EXPIRE.IMP".

  162.    You will then need to edit the CATLIST.CFG file(s) to suit your
  163. individual WildCat! setup.  You MUST use an ASCii editor to edit the CFG
  164. file at all times.  Some word processors leave hidden control codes that
  165. could cause CatList to die a horrible and ugly death.  The CATLIST.CFG
  166. file must contain 12 lines.

  187.           always point to the NODEx directory and NOT the \WC30

  201. Line 6    This is the minimum security level that you will allow to
  202.           enter the door.  DO NOT use the Security Name In makewild.
  203.           Always use the Menu Access number.

  213. Line 7    This is the number of days that a BBS listing will remain current.
  214.           If you specify "45" here, all listing will remain valid for 45
  215.           days. At that time a notice will be sent to the LISTER that his
  216.           listing has expired and that it will be deleted in 10 days.  He
  217.           will receive a notice each day for the 10 days.  On the eleventh
  218.           day, if the listing has not been updated, it will be deleted from
  219.           the database.  There is no way to recover the listing once it has
  220.           been deleted.  Users are notified by using the "USERxxxx.BBS" files
  221.           in the Display directory.  These files are deleted by Wildcat! once
  222.           they have been sent to the user.  The first person to enter the door
  223.           each day causes the program to run the maintenance and update
  224.           routines.

  226. Line 8    This line contain the path and name of the text file that you
  227.           want CatList to create.  This file contains no color codes and
  228.           is paginated for a printer.  This file is similar to the
  229.           WCLIST.TXT file that the List door on Mustang! BBS creates.

  232. Line 9    This is the path and name of the COLOR bulletin that you want
  233.           created.  This bulletin is created using WC!3.x color codes
  234.           and MUST have a ".BBS" filename extension. You may also prefer
  235.           a HELLOx.BBS screen though the file could get a bit large in
  236.           due time.

  238. Line 10   Path where CatList will find you ACTIVITY.xxx files.  This is
  239.           your Wildcat! home directory.  CatList writes  to the
  240.           individual Activity logs so that you can keep tabs on what
  241.           happens in the door.
  242.  
  243. Line 11   This is the path to your Display directory.  Catlist will
  244.           write the USERxxxx.BBS file in this directory.
  245.  
  246. Line 12   (Y/N)  If this line is set to "Y" then Catlist will create the
  247.           CATLIST.EXP & CATLIST.DEL files that are needed by POSTMASTER.
  248.           This option is only available to registered users but, this
  249.           line must still be included in the CFG file.

  251.      Make sure that all your CFG files contain 12 lines.  If you are
  252.      operating a Multi-Node setup, you must have a separate CFG file for
  253.      each node.  Each CFG file mus also have unique name such as:

  255.      BBS1.CFG   BBS2.CFG   BBS3.CFG

  258. Create the CFG file(s) for you particular BBS.  You will also need a DOORx.BAT
  259. to run the door.  This one is simple.

  266.  └ If you are running non-Standard Com ports on your BBS, you will need to pass
  267.  the proper IRQ to the door.  It doesn't hurt to pass the IRQ even if they are
  268.  standard.  If a user enters the door and it just sits there acting sort of
  269.  stupid, it's probably looking for the correct IRQ.  Always pass it on the
  270.  command line and there will be no question.  You may also use the environment
  271.  variable in the DOORx.BAT file to pass info to the door.

  275. Make sure you DO have the variables set if you use this method.

  277. NOTE: CatList supports COM 1-4 on the standard IRQ's - COM1/COM3 = IRQ4 and
  278.       COM2/COM4 = IRQ3. If you wish to use a non-standard IRQ, add the IRQ
  279.       number after the configuration filename. Let's assume your Door is
  280.       called FOOBAR and you want to use COM1 and IRQ5. The command line
  281.       passed to your Door would be:

  283.         FOOBAR FOOBAR.CFG /5

  285.       The /5 tells CatList to use IRQ5 rather than the standard IRQ4 that
  286.       is normally used with COM1. No /x parameter is needed for the standard
  287.       IRQ's.

  289.     If you have WC! set up to TERMINATE on Doors, you will need to add a
  290.     line to reload the BBS.  I'm not sure about the exact way this is
  291.     set up since I do not use this method.  Check your WC! Manual.
